The Solutions

Focus on the Solution Not the Problem

What must I do to put off the old to make room for the new?

Read Galatians 5:16-23.

These verses describe two heart conditions: Works of the flesh and the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

What is my focus?

One reason we seem confused pushed down, and perplexed is that our focus tends to be on our problems. Imagine that the wall in front of the person on the left is covered with every problem in your life. If you were focused on just those problems, can you imagine how overwhelming it could be? All you could see would be your problem. However, if you were looking the opposite direction at the solution, where would your problems be?

Changing our perspective by focusing on the solutions

What must I put off?

What needs to happen to those elements of your life that are listed in Galatians 5:16-23?

Do you agree: ‘I need to PUT THEM OFF!’ What have you done to put off your negative elements of your life previously?

Overcoming the past is not dependent upon your being able to ‘measure up’ to God’s standards.

God will meet you right where you are, even with all your doubts and fears, even if you don’t completely trust Him.

Because of His love, mercy, and grace, He will gently guide you to where He wants you to be.

Your victory over your past hurts will not come from ‘perfect external behavior’ but rather it will come from within your heart as you identify those areas of sin and shame, repent of your sin and forgive those who have sinned against you.

Restoration occurs when we discover our identity in Christ and develop a close, intimate relationship with Him.

Before we do the putting off, let’s dig just a tiny bit deeper with a couple of additional upcoming worksheet exercises.

What things do you think are going to have to be “put off” from your life?

As you think about changing perspective, do you believe God is able to change your perspective away from your problems?

How do you think you will feel if you can truly shift the focus on your problem to a focus on the solution?

Stop. Take a moment to pray for God to reveal all that needs to be ‘put off’ when we get to that section of the course. Jot anything that comes to your mind as you pray on your LifeLine worksheet.

Now soak a little deeper faith into your soul. Cry along with this song, I STILL BELIEVER:
