It is very important that you “clean out the closet” of your life.
in a small group, you may only want to focus on one issue such as abortion or just abuse, as you reflect on your life, it’s critical that you allow the light of God’s love and grace to pierce the darkness of your life and uncover every hidden thing of shame within your innermost being.
Psalm 51 is a section of the Bible that tells the story of David, who had sinned with Bathsheba.
After having adultery with her, getting her pregnant, and then marrying her after having her husband killed in battle to cover up the pregnancy.
When Nathan, the prophet used by God to confront this sin, David records this heart cry.
Let it be yours as you go through this intense process.
This prayer is the foundational prayer you will be asked to use throughout this course.
“Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to Your kindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me. Against You,
You only, have I sinned and done this evil in Your sight-that You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge.”
He goes on to say,”Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part you will make me to know wisdom.”

The goal of these exercises is to literally and figuratively clean out the closet of your life. WHY?
Because to honestly recover from those things that plague your life with painful feelings of shame, doubt, fear and anxiety/depression, you must first identify them.
We call this process “SELF EXAMINATION.”
It is recommended that before each exercise, you approach it in prayer.
The core prayer for the course is taken from Psalm 139:23-24 and Psalm 25:17-18 is a great prayer to pray when you are in trouble or pain or affliction.
